Addie

Addie is an established short form of Adelaide and Adeline, names associated with the Germanic element for noble. It can also be used for other longer names, including Addison, so that noble meaning should not automatically be attached to every person called Addie. The intended full name supplies the particular history.

Addy is a close spelling comparison, familiar through the American Girl character. Addie can also stand alone, preserving the everyday form without requiring a longer name on official documents. Families who want several nickname possibilities may prefer Adelaide or Adeline; those honoring someone specifically known as Addie can keep the short form itself.
