Adora

Adora is a modern personal name associated with adore and adoration, words that ultimately connect with Latin adorare, meaning to worship or address with reverence. Its meaning is often summarized as adored, though that is an interpretation of the name’s intended sentiment rather than the exact grammatical form of the Latin verb.

Popular culture supplies a clear bearer in Princess Adora, the character who becomes She-Ra. That fictional association gives the name a history of its own beyond its resemblance to a verb. Dora can serve as a shorter family form, but Adora is not automatically the same name as Theodora or Isadora. Families choosing it may be expressing affection for a child, choosing a character connection, or combining both ideas.
