Ailana

Ailana can be connected with Hawaiian ʻailana, a word for “island” borrowed from English. That offers a specific geographical meaning, rather than the “loving” translation sometimes attached to this spelling. Other naming sources connect Ailana with names built around a moon element, but those proposals should not be combined into one supposed Hawaiian meaning.

For a family choosing the Hawaiian connection, the original word's spelling and cultural setting are worth understanding. Ailana has a flowing sequence of vowels that invites comparison with Alana and Ilana, although those names have different histories. It may need a pronunciation introduction in English. The island association makes it a thoughtful option when a particular place, rather than a broad romantic translation, is central to the choice.
