Alaina

Alaina is commonly treated as a feminine form in the Alan or Alain name family. Alan’s original meaning is uncertain, so “little rock” is a proposed interpretation rather than a settled translation of Alaina. Similarity to Elena or Elaine does not by itself establish the same etymology.

The usual English pronunciation is uh-LAY-nuh, with the emphasis in the middle. Ali and Allie offer possible short forms, while Alana is a related alternative whose vowel pattern may be different. A family honoring an Alan can make that connection explicit without needing a certain ancient meaning. Comparing the names aloud with a surname is particularly useful when choosing among these similar spellings.
