Alayah

Alayah is a modern form often connected with Aaliyah, the Arabic name associated with being high or exalted. It can also resemble Alaya or Basque Alaia, which have different histories. Those similarities do not make the meanings of all three names interchangeable.

Layah is a possible personal nickname. Families choosing Alayah to honor an Aaliyah may have a clear explanation that differs from a family choosing it for sound alone. Comparing the related-looking spellings aloud can clarify both stress and vowel sounds. The final h may be a spelling preference rather than evidence of one particular ancient origin.
