Alek

Alek is a familiar form in the Alexander family, used in several European naming traditions. Through Alexander it connects with Greek elements for defending and for people. Its k ending gives a different written form from Alex or Alec, while the family relationship remains recognizable when the name is used alongside a longer Alexander form.

Short forms do not all develop in the same way across languages: Alek can be an everyday name within one family and the complete registered name in another. The Greek-derived route gives it a substantial history through the Alexander tradition. Similar spellings also occur in unrelated cultures, so the intended family language matters when explaining the meaning of an individual Alek.
