Alissa

Alissa belongs to the extended Alice family, with Alicia and Alyssa providing the closest familiar connections. Through that family, its roots reach the Germanic element associated with nobility. The spelling keeps the soft opening and flowing ending of Alyssa while replacing the central y with an i. It offers a way to carry an Alice or Alicia connection into a different everyday form.

Alissa and Elissa can sound similar, but their histories need not be the same: Elissa has separate traditions and associations. For Alissa, the Alice connection is the clearest starting point. Ali and Lissa are natural shortenings, giving the full name both a brief, familiar option and one that preserves its distinctive ending.
