Aliza

Aliza is a Hebrew name meaning “joyful.” It has an independent origin rather than being only another spelling of Eliza, Alicia, or Alyssa. Those similar-looking names belong to different families, so their meanings should not be transferred to Aliza simply because the letters or sounds overlap.

Aleeza makes the long middle vowel more visible in English spelling, while Alizah adds a final h. These alternatives can help explain the intended sound, although a family's own pronunciation remains the best guide. Aliza's meaning describes joy directly; it does not depend on an extended biblical name or a botanical connection. The distinction from Eliza is especially useful when discussing both names on the same shortlist.
