Amir

Amir has two distinct naming traditions. In Arabic it is associated with a commander, ruler, or prince, and the word also became a title. Hebrew Amir refers to a treetop. These meanings come from different language roots, even though the names are often written with the same four letters in English.

Ameer makes the long vowel more visible in an English transliteration of the Arabic name, while Emir is another related form. Amir is also the name of the narrator in The Kite Runner. A family choosing it can explain which linguistic or personal connection matters to them instead of combining all its meanings into one.
