Ammon

Ammon has more than one historical setting. In the ancient Egyptian tradition, it is a form associated with Amun, whose name means the hidden one. The spelling Ammon became familiar through Greek usage. That route gives the name a connection with ancient religion and with the way a divine name moved between languages and cultures.

Ammon also appears as a personal name in the Book of Mormon, where a son of Mosiah becomes a missionary. For Latter-day Saint families, that scriptural character may be the central association rather than the Egyptian history. These contexts should be kept distinct: sharing a spelling does not establish a single explanation for every use. A family's own tradition can determine which story the name is intended to carry.
