Angelique

Angelique is the unaccented spelling of French Angélique, meaning angelic. The name belongs to the wider family of Angela and Angelica, ultimately connected with Greek angelos, meaning messenger. Its familiar religious association comes from the use of that word for angels, rather than from a separate meaning created by the French ending.

Angie gives the name an informal short form, while Angelica offers a related version with an open final vowel. Angelique ends with a distinct k sound and is pronounced differently across language contexts. Families may choose the spelling that suits their documents and language while preserving a relative’s name or the intended angelic association.
