Ansley

Ansley is an English place-name surname used as a given name. Explanations of the older place name include a woodland clearing associated with a hermitage, while other interpretations differ. That history is more specific than treating Ansley as a recent combination of Annie, Ashley, and Ainsley simply because it resembles them.

Ansley Gordon is a real-world bearer in acting and writing. The spelling lacks the extra i in Ainsley, so the two should not be confused automatically in family records or introductions. For a surname-based honor name, the original spelling and location can provide a clearer story than applying one generalized meaning to every related-looking form.
