April

April is an English month name used directly as a personal name. The month comes through Latin Aprilis, whose deeper origin has been explained in different ways. A connection with opening flowers is traditional, but the clearest immediate meaning of the given name is the month itself.

April suggests spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere, so its seasonal image depends on place. Avril and Abril are corresponding month names used as personal names in other languages. Families may choose April for a birth month, an anniversary, or its sound; the child does not need an April birthday for the choice to be meaningful.
