Arabelle

Arabelle belongs to the Arabella name family, with a lighter final syllable in place of -bella. The family's older history is not completely settled. One explanation connects Arabella through Annabel with the medieval name Amabel, from Latin amabilis, “lovable.” That gives Arabelle a possible affectionate meaning, though it is better treated as an interpretation than as an exact, universally accepted translation.

The -belle ending also resembles the French word for “beautiful,” which can add a pleasing association without establishing the name's historical origin. Arabelle offers the length and flowing consonants of Arabella with a different finish. Families honoring an Arabella may find the connection clear, while those drawn to French-looking names can appreciate the spelling without needing to claim a more certain etymology than the evidence allows.
