Aram

Aram is deeply established in Armenian tradition, where an ancient ancestor of the Armenian people bears the name in historical legend. Its Armenian etymology is uncertain. Composer Aram Khachaturian and William Saroyan’s story collection My Name Is Aram give it especially strong artistic and literary connections.

Other languages have independent forms written Aram. In the Hebrew Bible it is a personal and geographic name often associated with elevation, while Kurdish and Persian aram relates to calm or repose. These separate histories explain the range of meanings found for the same spelling. For a family with Armenian roots, the legendary and cultural history can be central even without assigning it the often-repeated but uncertain meaning child of the sun.
