Aranza

Aranza is connected with Arantzazu, the Basque Marian sanctuary and name associated with thorns. A local legend tells of a shepherd finding an image of Mary in a thorn bush and expressing surprise at seeing her there. That story belongs to the sanctuary's tradition and should be presented as a legend rather than a documented explanation of every detail.

Aranza is a shorter form used in Spanish-language naming, including by the Mexican singer of that name. It can carry a devotional or regional connection even when a family is not using the full Arantzazu spelling. The thorn association comes through that specific place and religious history, making it more informative than a general description of the name as floral.
