Arina

Arina is a Russian form related to Irina, which belongs to the Irene family. The older Greek word eirene means peace, giving the name a direct connection with that idea. Arina preserves the meaning while using a spoken and written form that has developed within Russian naming tradition.

The wider family reaches back to Greek personifications of peace and later Christian names, helping explain its spread across Europe. Arina can honor an Irina without repeating the exact form, while Irene provides the clearest familiar comparison for many English speakers. Its beginning distinguishes it from Irina, but the shared history remains a useful way to understand the name's meaning and cultural background.
