Avalon

Avalon is the island of Arthurian legend where Arthur is taken after being wounded. Its name is traditionally connected with apples, giving the familiar interpretation “island of apples.” The association belongs to a legendary place rather than to a modern literal island name chosen independently for a child.

Avalon is also the name of a town on California's Santa Catalina Island, providing a separate geographical connection for some families. It may resemble Ava or Evelyn, but it is not simply a longer spelling of either. Choosing Avalon can preserve a literary or place-related story while keeping a three-syllable name that works in full without an established nickname.
