Aveline

Aveline came through Norman French from the Germanic name Avelina, a familiar form related to Avila. Its earliest root is uncertain, even though the name's medieval history is well established. The Normans brought it to Britain, where it became part of the English naming landscape alongside many other names with continental origins.

Its relationship with the Ava and Avelina family explains why it may feel familiar beside modern names such as Evelyn. Aveline is also close to a French word for a kind of hazelnut, giving it an additional association in French, but the personal name has its own older route. The attraction can lie in that documented medieval history even without a settled literal meaning.
