Avia

Avia is a modern Hebrew form of Abijah, a biblical name built from elements referring to a father and to Yahweh, the God of Israel. Its meaning is usually expressed as “my father is Yahweh.” The name keeps a devotional connection while using a shorter modern spelling, and Aviya is another way of representing the Hebrew form in Latin letters.

The opening Avi may look familiar from other Hebrew names involving the word for father, while the ending carries the divine element. Avia therefore has more structure than its four letters initially suggest. Its relationship to Abijah can be useful for families seeking a Hebrew name with biblical roots and a form used beyond the older English Bible spelling.
