Aviel

Aviel is the modern Hebrew form of Abiel, a biblical name combining elements for father and God. It is commonly understood as “my father is God.” The full meaning is more specific than the shortened gloss “father,” because the final element is an essential part of the religious expression.

Aviel retains a clear link with Hebrew naming traditions while differing from Abiel in its middle consonant. Avi offers a shorter everyday form, although Avi also exists in other Hebrew name families. The complete Aviel keeps the divine element audible. Its shared beginning with Avigail does not make the two names simple spelling variants or give them identical meanings.
