Avion

Avion is the French word for airplane, with a root in Latin avis, meaning bird. The word became associated with the early aviation experiments of French engineer Clément Ader, making its history a meeting point between the natural world and human invention. As a personal name, Avion draws on that modern word and its connection with flight.

For parents interested in travel, engineering, or the sky, the name offers a specific story behind its open vowel sounds. Flight and freedom are understandable associations, although airplane is the direct French meaning. Its pronunciation may differ between a French speaker and an English-speaking family using it as a name. Hearing the family's chosen form helps clarify how the everyday word has become their child's own name.
