Bea

Bea is best known as a short form of Beatrice, although it can also be used for other names beginning with B. Through Beatrice, it connects with the familiar association of blessing or happiness. As a nickname, however, its precise inherited meaning depends on the full name behind it, rather than on the three letters alone.

Actor Bea Arthur is a useful example: her original name was Bernice, showing how Bea can belong to more than one name family. Bea has also been used independently, making it a complete choice for parents who prefer the brief form on official records. Bee offers a playful alternative spelling, while Bea retains a visible link with Beatrice and other traditional B names.
