Beverly

Beverly comes through an English surname from the place name Beverley, traditionally interpreted as “beaver stream.” It developed as a given name for boys before becoming especially familiar for girls. That changing usage belongs to its history and does not alter the older geographical meaning.

Bev is the best-known short form, while Beverley preserves the spelling of the English town. Children’s author Beverly Cleary gives the name a literary connection, and soprano Beverly Sills provides a musical one. Families may choose Beverly to honor a relative or for its surname background. Everly resembles much of its sound but is a different name with its own origin.
