Bliss

Bliss is an English word for a state of deep or complete happiness. As a name, it belongs with word choices such as Joy and Felicity, where the central meaning is immediately accessible. It can have a spiritual sense of blessed happiness, but the ordinary English word also allows a fully secular interpretation.

That flexibility gives Bliss room for a family’s own intention: gratitude at a birth, a hope for a happy life, or a connection with the word itself. Its single syllable makes the name much shorter in sound than the expansive feeling it describes. The meaning remains an expression of hope rather than a prediction about personality, with the familiar word doing most of the name’s storytelling.
