Blossom

Blossom is an English word name referring to a flower or bloom. Unlike a name taken from one particular plant, it can evoke flowering more generally, which leaves room for a family’s own garden or seasonal association. Its meaning is direct and does not depend on a proposed ancient personal-name root.

Jazz singer Blossom Dearie is a real-world bearer, while the television series Blossom provides another familiar association. The name’s earlier twentieth-century use also gives it a history beyond contemporary botanical naming. Families comparing Blossom with Rose or Zinnia can decide whether they prefer a specific flower or a broader word for the act and appearance of flowering.
