Bowie

Bowie comes from a Scottish surname commonly connected with Gaelic buidhe, meaning “yellow” and used in reference to fair hair. For many families today, musician David Bowie is the strongest association, but his adopted surname did not create the name's older history. The surname also appears in other historical contexts that may matter to particular families.

The name's two syllables and open ending give it a relaxed sound beside Brody or Rory, though the origins differ. Pronunciation varies among established bearers, so parents should introduce the version they prefer rather than assume there is only one. Bo can be an affectionate shortening. Bowie may work especially well when a musical or ancestral connection is meaningful beyond simply liking a famous name.
