Brodie

Brodie comes from a Scottish surname associated with the lands of Brodie in Moray. The place name’s older meaning is uncertain: “little ridge” and descriptions of muddy ground are among the proposed explanations. Its Scottish geographical connection is much firmer than any single word-for-word translation, making it particularly meaningful as a family or heritage choice.

The Brodie spelling retains the look of the Scottish surname, while Brody is another familiar version. Both have a relaxed two-syllable rhythm and work comfortably without a nickname. Parents may want to choose the spelling they would enjoy repeating, since the two forms sound alike. The final ie is part of the complete name, not necessarily a diminutive.
