Cali

Cali can be an independent short name or a nickname drawn from a longer name beginning with “Cal.” Its meaning therefore depends on that longer form: Calliope and Calista, for example, do not have exactly the same interpretation. The spelling alone does not establish one ancient meaning shared by every Cali.

For some families, Cali also recalls California, making a place or memory more important than a formal name connection. Callie is a spelling alternative to compare, while the similarly written Kali can belong to a separate naming tradition. Deciding whether you want a nickname, a place association, or a standalone name helps clarify which story fits your choice.
