Cassandra

Cassandra is the name of a Trojan princess in Greek mythology who could foresee events but was not believed. Her story gives the name a strong literary association, while its deeper linguistic meaning is debated. Proposed translations involving shining or excelling should therefore be distinguished from the much clearer mythological history.

Cass, Cassie, and Sandra offer different shorter forms, and Kassandra is a spelling closer to the Greek initial letter. Jane Austen's sister and mother were both named Cassandra, adding another literary connection without changing its origin. The full name has three syllables in a common English reading, with several everyday options if a family prefers a nickname.
