Charlize

Charlize is an Afrikaans feminine form related to Charles, whose older Germanic root refers to a man or free person. Its ending gives it a distinctive shape within a broad family that also includes Charlotte and Caroline. The form is closely associated with South African naming rather than being a traditional French spelling of Charles.

Actress Charlize Theron made this exact name widely recognizable internationally. She was named in connection with her father Charles, providing a concrete example of how the feminine form can honor a family member. That personal naming story does not change the older Charles root, but it helps explain the modern cultural identity of Charlize as a name in its own right.
