Coby

Coby is commonly used as a familiar form of Jacob or Jacoby. Through that route, it belongs to the Hebrew Jacob family, traditionally explained through the biblical scene of Jacob holding his twin brother’s heel. It can also develop from other longer names, so the intended family connection matters when assigning a meaning.

Actor Coby Bell is a familiar bearer of this spelling. Cobi, Cobie, and Koby offer nearby written forms, while Coby makes the connection with the middle of Jacob especially visible. The name has a relaxed, complete sound on its own, allowing families to use the familiar form formally without requiring a longer name that may not be part of their own tradition.
