Crystal

Crystal is an English word name inspired by the clear mineral and its sparkling appearance. The word's history reaches back to Greek krystallos, associated with ice and rock crystal. That connection gives the name a natural meaning rather than an invented gemstone legend. Its bright visual associations helped make it a familiar choice in twentieth-century English-speaking families.

For parents comparing Ruby, Pearl, or Gemma, Crystal offers a different kind of mineral connection: clarity and structure rather than a particular colored stone. The standard word spelling is immediately recognizable, while Krystal and Krystle change its appearance without changing the usual sound. Crystal can stand comfortably on its own in daily use. It may also be a meaningful way to honor a relative with the name.
