Daria

Daria is a feminine form of Darius, a name that traveled from Old Persian through Greek and Latin. Its older elements are commonly interpreted as possessing or holding good. That history places Daria within a substantial international name family rather than making it simply a modern feminine ending added to a familiar sound.

The name has been carried in Christian tradition and across several European languages. Darya and Dariya reflect related written forms, while Dasha is an established familiar form in Russian use. Many English speakers also know Daria through the animated television character. Those different associations give families several ways to connect with a name whose roots are much older than its modern screen presence.
