Darla

Darla is an English name connected with the term of affection “darling.” Its meaning is therefore rooted in an everyday expression for someone dear, rather than in an unrelated ancient word. Darlene belongs to the same affectionate naming family, with a different ending and rhythm.

Actress Darla Hood, known for the Our Gang films, gives the name a recognizable historical association. Darla’s two syllables make it complete without needing a shorter form. Families may choose it as an affectionate name in its own right or to honor an older relative. Its direct connection with endearment remains clear even when the name is used in formal adult settings.
