Dax

Dax is the name of a town in southwestern France known for its thermal springs. As a given name, it can be chosen for that place connection or for its brief sound. It does not need a longer name behind it, and a specific family association may explain its use better than a proposed word-for-word translation.

The name also appears in fiction, including the Star Trek universe, while actor Dax Shepard is a familiar real bearer. Its single syllable and final x give it a very different shape from longer French names. Parents can consider which association matters to them without treating every Dax as named for the same character or place.
