Della

Della is an established short form associated with Adela, Adele, and Adelaide, names from a Germanic family connected with nobility. It can also be used for other longer names or independently. That means the noble interpretation fits the Adela route, rather than automatically explaining every family’s use of Della.

Dell offers an even shorter form, while the two-syllable Della is already complete as a given name. Singer and actress Della Reese supplies a recognizable cultural association. The spelling also resembles an Italian word, but that ordinary-language use is not the same as the personal name’s history. A family honor connection can clarify which longer name, if any, is intended.
