Delta

Delta is the name of the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet. Its capital form has a triangular shape, which led to its use for the land built up by sediment where some rivers reach a larger body of water. The geographical meaning is therefore connected with the letter's appearance, giving the name both a linguistic and a landscape story.

As a given name, Delta has a history beyond its use in science and geography. Singer Delta Goodrem and actress Delta Burke are familiar bearers. It can suggest flowing water and changing landscapes, while its alphabetic origin adds another association with learning and language. A river delta is a reminder of how flowing water can gradually build new land.
