Demetria

Demetria is the feminine form of Demetrios, also known in its Latinized form as Demetrius. The name refers to Demeter, the Greek goddess associated with agriculture and the harvest. Its direct explanation is therefore of Demeter or belonging to Demeter. The goddess's own name has a more debated linguistic history, so that relationship is more secure than a simple earth-mother translation.

Demetria is recorded as a personal name in ancient Greek, giving it a history beyond modern interest in mythology. Demi is a familiar shorter form, known through singer and actor Demi Lovato, whose given name is Demetria. The full name preserves its classical structure while the short form offers a very different everyday scale. Its mythological association can appeal to families interested in Greek stories, agricultural imagery, or an established name with an ancient background.
