Domingo

Domingo is the Spanish form of Dominic, from Latin dominicus, meaning “of the Lord.” Domingo is also the Spanish word for Sunday, reflecting the older Christian expression for the Lord’s day. That calendar connection can be meaningful for a Sunday-born child, but it is not a requirement for using the name.

The personal name belongs to the same international family as English Dominic and Italian Domenico. Its three-syllable shape and final o keep the Spanish form distinctive. Families may choose it for religious heritage, for a relative, or for the day-of-the-week association. Knowing how those connections developed makes the name’s history clearer than treating “born on Sunday” as its only possible meaning.
