Donte

Donte is a spelling variation of Dante, an Italian name that developed as a short form of Durante. Durante comes from a Latin root concerned with lasting or enduring, giving the name a meaning connected with persistence through time. Donte preserves that family connection while using an o in the opening syllable.

The best-known historical reference in the wider name family is the poet Dante Alighieri, author of the Divine Comedy. That literary association belongs to Dante’s long history and may also be meaningful to families choosing Donte. The spelling itself is a separate modern choice, useful for parents who like the sound and inherited meaning but prefer the form already familiar in their family or community.
