Eliab

Eliab is a Hebrew biblical name combining a reference to God with the word for father. It is usually interpreted as “my God is father.” Several people bear the name in scripture, so its story reaches beyond one character. Among them is David’s eldest brother, whom Samuel sees when he visits Jesse’s household to anoint a future king.

Another Eliab is associated with the tribe of Zebulun in the wilderness narratives. Those different appearances give parents more than one biblical connection to explore. The opening Eli makes the name look familiar beside other Hebrew names, while the final b preserves the father element that distinguishes its meaning. Eli can serve as a shorter everyday form, leaving Eliab as the full name with its specific scriptural and linguistic background.
