Eliano

Eliano is an Italian form in the Aelianus name family. Aelianus developed from Aelius, a Roman family name whose original meaning is uncertain. A traditional connection with the Greek word for sun has sometimes been proposed, but it is better treated as an interpretation than as a settled translation of Eliano.

The Roman background offers a distinctive point of interest for parents drawn to classical names. Aelius was a family name, and later forms such as Aelianus show how Roman names could be extended and passed into other languages. Eliano preserves that history in an Italian form with an open final vowel. Elian is a close comparison for a family wanting a shorter ending while staying within this particular name family.
