Elouise

Elouise is a spelling of Eloise with an added “u.” Eloise’s earlier history is debated, so interpretations involving health or width should be presented cautiously rather than as a certain translation. The modern spelling makes Louise more visible on the page, but that resemblance does not establish that the two names originally had the same root.

Lou and Ellie offer different everyday shortenings, while Eloise is the closest spelling to compare. A family can choose Elouise as a personal honor for a Louise even if the historical origins differ. Its established use in earlier generations also gives it a history beyond the recent popularity of other names ending in “Louise.”
