Ember

Ember is an English word name for a piece of coal or wood that remains glowing as a fire dies down. Its literal meaning gives it warm, fiery imagery. Families may connect that image with persistence or a fresh beginning, but those are personal interpretations rather than additional dictionary meanings.

Ember is distinct from Amber, the name associated with fossilized resin, despite their similar spelling and sound. Emmy is one possible affectionate form, while Ember works comfortably as a complete two-syllable name. It is used for boys as well as girls, with the US figures showing that balance for each recorded year. Parents drawn to nature names may prefer its fire connection to the more usual flowers, trees, or gemstones.
