Emeric

Emeric is a French form of the Germanic name Emmerich, often written Émeric in French. The ending belongs to an old name element meaning “ruler” or “king.” The first element is less certain: several older forms may have merged, so translations involving home, greatness, or vigor reflect different proposed histories rather than one settled phrase.

This places Emeric in a wider family that includes Emery in English and Imre in Hungarian. Its resemblance to Eric is not evidence that it was created by lengthening that name. The longer Germanic history helps explain the range of related forms, while the French spelling gives Emeric a distinct identity within that family.
