Emilee

Emilee is a modern spelling of Emily, which comes from the Roman family name Aemilius. The name is often associated with a Latin word concerning rivalry or emulation, although the deeper origin is uncertain. The familiar rival meaning is therefore a traditional interpretation rather than a complete explanation of every stage in its history.

The ee ending makes Emilee distinct from Emily on the page while keeping the same recognizable name family. Emilie is another established related form with its own language traditions. For a family honoring an Emily, Emilee can preserve the connection in a different spelling; the altered ending does not create a separate ancient root or change the basic family relationship.
