Emme

Emme is a compact name related to Emmy and Emmie, often connected with Emma or Emily. Through Emma, it can carry the Germanic sense “whole” or “universal.” Emily belongs to a different, Latin name family whose deeper meaning is less certain, so Emme's interpretation depends on which longer name, if any, a family has in mind.

The model known professionally as Emme was born Melissa, showing that the form can also develop from a different personal name. It has since been used as a complete given name in its own right. Although its four letters may suggest a single syllable to some readers, the familiar name is often said like Emmy. That small practical distinction is useful when comparing the look of Emme with its close spelling relatives.
