Emmi

Emmi is an affectionate form used with names such as Emma and Emily, as well as a first name in its own right. Through Emma, it reaches a Germanic element meaning whole or universal. Through Emily, it belongs to the Roman Aemilius family, whose deeper derivation is less certain despite the familiar rival interpretation.

That distinction matters when Emmi is chosen as an honor name: an Emma and an Emily give it different linguistic family stories. The short form itself keeps the same friendly, compact appearance in either case. Emmy and Emmie are nearby spellings, while the final i gives Emmi a particularly simple finish without requiring a longer name for formal occasions.
