Eros

Eros is the Greek name associated with love and desire, and with the mythological god who embodies those forces. The meaning is specifically connected with romantic or passionate love rather than every possible kind of affection. Its mythology gives the name a particularly direct cultural association.

Eros is also the name of an asteroid, extending the mythological reference into astronomy. Modern fiction has reused the name as well, but those later appearances do not replace its Greek origin. Families choosing Eros may value the classical connection or the concise four-letter form, while recognizing that the name carries a more specific meaning than a general wish for kindness.
